Hey Friends! My name is Billy Spingola & I wear a lot of hats that are all attached through the sport of lacrosse here in Wisconsin. I am the current head coach for the Boy’s Varsity lacrosse team, a partner in Alpha Lacrosse, and a partner in the Lax Shack, Wisconsin’s newest lacrosse storefront. I was born & raised in a western suburb of Chicago (don’t hold it against me) before I made my way to Marquette University to pursue a degree in Biomechanical Engineering & opportunity to play for the MU lacrosse program. My playing days at Marquette were short-lived, but the minute I hung up the cleats in 2014 I picked up my whistle and have been coaching here in Wisconsin ever since. I am going onto my 4th season coaching within the Mukwonago lacrosse community & I’m blessed to see how quickly the community has taken to the fastest growing sport in the country.

About Billy Spingola

Q: Please tell us a little bit about your family.

I am currently engaged to my best friend & the love of my life. Mara & I are getting married in 5 short months and we can’t wait. While we don’t have any kids, we have one dog named Opie who keeps us on our toes & brings plenty of sunshine into our life.

Q: Please tell us about your current, past, or future career. What do you love most about what you do?

I got my degree in the engineering field, but the sport of lacrosse has always been my true passion. I love that I have the opportunity to share this game with anyone that’s willing to listen & give something new a try!

Q: What advice would you give to people?

Dream big, stay curious, and work hard. No matter how lofty your goals are, if you can learn from the mistakes you make & keep showing up every day it is only a matter of time before you achieve the unexpected.

Q: Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

Professionally, I see the Lax Shack & Alpha Lacrosse continue to pave the way for our sport within the lacrosse community. I also see Mukwonago lacrosse making its way to the top of the mountain with several state championships in the trophy case. Lastly, the dream is to be sitting on the porch with Mara watching our young ones run around without a care in the world. Big dreams!

Q: What have you done to make Mukwonago a better place?

I am committed to seeing the sport that has taught me everything grow within this community, one player at a time. That includes teaching a week’s worth of lacrosse in all of the elementary schools, hosting try-it days for those to give something new a chance, building positive relationships with other businesses that share our mission, and hosting a local lacrosse tournament in May which brings others into the Land of the Bear.

Billy Spingola & Our Community

Q: What are a couple of your favorite restaurants in our community? And what is your favorite thing to order from those restaurants?

Brew 52 / Bee Well for your morning magic & David Alan Alan’s for dinner. I am thinking about a DAA burrito with a side of mac & cheese as I finish typing out this sentence.

Q: Who is the most interesting person you’ve met here in our community?

Jim Frutchey at Morningstar Golf Course has become family. He has been a mentor to me since the first day I got involved with Mukwonago lacrosse back in 2020 and has grown to become the older brother that I never had.  He has helped me understand how important it is to re-invest into the community and commit to the youth organizations as much as the high school.

Q: What current or former local business makes you the most nostalgic about our community?

Fork in the Road because of its location within the epicenter of the town. It is a space that everyone within the community makes its way through at one point or another.

Q: If you could choose anyone that is alive today and not a relative; with whom would you love to have lunch? Why? And where locally would y’all meet for this lunch?

Phil Jackson & I splitting some wings at Badger Burger sounds like an incredible lunch opportunity. There are several reasons why, but winning 12 NBA championships as a coach, working with some of the greatest players in NBA history, and learning about his hardships along the way would be the main reasons.

Q: What is your favorite thing to do in Mukwonago?

I know this sounds Cliche: there is something therapeutic about getting some barefoot reps on the turf with a new bucket of balls and a newly strung cage. That is my happy place.

For Fun

Q: What is one of your favorite movies? TV shows?

One fun fact about me: I love watching Anime TV shows, specifically Naruto and Dragon Ball Z. I loved them growing up as a kid and still enjoy them to this day.

Q: (Even for friends or family), what is something interesting that most people don’t know about you?

One interesting fact that many don’t know about me is that I used to play in a jazz band back in middle school / HS. I was also the drummer for the pit orchestra my SR year of high school.

Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be and why?

I would take Mara on a 2-week trip to Italy. We would start in Sicily & work our way up the boot, eating our way from city – city.

Q: What is your go to band/artist when you can’t decide what to listen to?

I have a heavy rotation of the same groups, mainly living in the EDM / 90’s Rap space. If I had to pick one from each music genre, it would be Porter Robinson & the Wu-Tang Clan.

Q: If you had a time machine, what historical event would you want to see?

If I could see anything, I would jump in the time machine & attend the 1980 Winter Olympics to watch USA bring home the gold in Lake Placid.

Q: Do you have any nicknames? What are they and why were they given to you?

I wasn’t given any nicknames other than Billy. My birth name is William, but I have always gone by Billy. Maybe I will start going by Bill once I have my own Billy.

Q: What are you passionate about?

I am a passionate person so there are a lot of things we could discuss here, but my main passions are my family, the sport of lacrosse, great food, and the Chicago Cubs.

Q: Who would you like to give a shout-out to that contributed to your success?

I want to give a shout out to Mara, my future Mrs. She has been my rock & #1 support system. Getting married to a coach isn’t easy and without her support I would not be the person I am today.

Q: Favorite month? favorite holiday? and best single day on the calendar?

My favorite month of the year is August because it is the one month in the year where my on-field responsibilities are minimal, which gives me more time to spend with the people I love. My favorite holiday is Thanksgiving & the best single day on the calendar is Red Sauce Day! It is the day Mara & I harvest all of our tomatoes to make as much red sauce as possible. Let me know if you’d like a jar!

Q: If you won $10,000,000 what is the first thing you would do?

I would buy a house on the lake that Mara, Opie, and my family can enjoy year-round.

Q: What is one or two of your favorite smells?

My two favorite smells are fresh cut grass & a red pasta sauce simmering on the stove.

Q: Finally, what 3 words or phrases come to mind when you think of the word HOME?

Community, Genuine, Cozy
