What High School do you attend?
Mukwonago High School

Please highlight your accomplishments while in High School.
I have been of member of various high school clubs: Key Club, SAVE (Students Against Violence Everywhere), Sting Cancer, and Junior Optimist Club. I was nominated twice for the Leadership Award and played basketball during my freshman and sophomore years. I am also involved in Mukwonago High School’s fine arts program where I have earned four varsity letters. I am passionate about singing and playing piano. I have been playing piano for eleven years. For four years, I have been a member of various school choirs, including two select choirs. I also performed a lead role in MHS’s musical, “Little Shop of Horrors.” Two years ago, I went to State for singing, and in May, my choir ensemble will be performing at State. In addition, I have often served as a leader in my unified music class, where I assist in teaching disabled students the joy of music.

Please tell us a little bit about your family.
Instead of having one amazing family, God blessed me with two families who love and support me. I was born in Guatemala and adopted when I was 8 months old.
I live in Mukwonago with my mom Jill, dad Chris, and brother Alex, who is also adopted from Guatemala, plus our two cats Melody and Sophie. My family means everything to me. I know when I need them the most, they are there for me. Both of my parents are my biggest role models. They have taught me how to be a good human being and to always do what’s right, even though it might not make everyone happy.
I am the youngest but only by two months. Like most siblings, my brother and I may not always be best friends, but we still lean on each other when we need a good laugh.
My other family, who I recently had the blessing of meeting after 18 years, is my birth mom, Siona, older half-sister, Kimberly, her husband, Edy, my niece and nephew, Melany and Edy, and my younger brother, Anderson. They live in a village called San Juan Argueta, located in Solola, Guatemala. After spending three days with them, I know where I get my outgoing personality. Even though we are over 1,600 miles apart, we are still in each other’s hearts and will see each other again.

What are your plans after graduation?
Starting in the Fall, I will be attending the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. I plan to major in Elementary and Special Education.

What are two of your favorite restaurants in our community?
My two favorite restaurants are Fork in the Road and Antigua Real.

If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be and why?
I would go back to Guatemala. Visiting there for nine days in March was not enough for me. I felt my heart was complete when I was there. When I left, a piece of my heart stayed there. My Abuelo Francisco said, “This is your land, and it will be here waiting for you when you return.” I will never let go of that saying. I feel I still have so much to learn about my country and most importantly, I want to see my family again.

What is one of your favorite movies? TV shows?
My favorite TV show is The Office.

If you were asked to give advice to your senior class and the younger students at your school, what would you say?
I would say to always be yourself. Do not pretend to be someone else. In today’s society, high school is all about fitting in and feeling the need to belong. I am involved in theater and choir at MHS, and I’m very passionate about it. What people do not know is that I was scared at first to express my love for music and wanted to do the musical in my junior year. At the moment, I was focused on basketball, and I thought that if I quit and joined theater, people would look at me differently, and I wouldn’t be considered “cool.” Kids should not have to hide or be afraid to do what they love.

If you were able to be cast as yourself into a television show or series, what show would you want to be in?
I would cast myself in The Office. I would definitely steal Jim away from Pam!

If you could choose anyone to have lunch with, who would you choose? Why? And where, locally, would you meet for this lunch?
I would have lunch with my grandpa, who passed away in 2017. My grandfather was a farmer, and he was a tough-love kind of man. As a child, he used to terrify me! Once I got older, we became closer. I feel I did not have enough time with my grandpa, and I would love to catch up with him and play another game of dominoes. I would have lunch with him at David Alan Alan’s because he always enjoyed good meat and cold beer!

What is your favorite thing about our community?
My favorite thing about our community is the support for the Fine Arts. Even before the Greenwald PAC was built, the Mukwonago Community would always come to support shows, plays, and so much more. One fundraiser that is a community favorite is Mukwonago Choir’s Night on Broadway. Since freshman year, the crowd for Night on Broadway has always been huge. Even during COVID, our community still came out to support.

What have you done to make Mukwonago a better place?
I have helped to make Mukwonago a better place by volunteering throughout the community of Mukwonago: at my church, St. James; at the Mukwonago Thrift Store; and through MHS’s Key Club and Junior Optimist Club. Each year around Earth Day, I also pick up litter on Frog Alley. Every December, my family and I ring bells at Pick ‘n Save for Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Campaign.

Where do you see yourself in 5 to 10 years?
I see myself being a kindergarten or first-grade teacher. Hopefully, I will have done a little traveling as well.

What is something on your bucket list?
My family loves to travel, and I hope to make it to all 50 states. Even after going to all 50 states, I hope to travel to a few countries.

What is your go to band / singer when you can’t decide what to listen to?
Shawn Mendes

Favorite month? favorite holiday? and best single day on the calendar?
My favorite month is December because that is when it usually snows. I absolutely love snow! My favorite holiday is Christmas, because it is the time of giving, and my family and I have so many traditions around Christmas time. Lastly, the best single day on the calendar is December 25, because that is when Jesus was born. Jesus is a big part of my life, and He has helped me in so many ways.

What would you rate a 10 out of 10?
Fork in the Road’s mac and cheese never disappoints.

Who inspires you to be better?
My birth mother was practically shamed by her own parents for having me. She made the toughest decision that no mother should have to make, which was to give up a child. After 18 years of not knowing if she was alive or dead, I now know she has made a good life for herself. She inspires me to be better because of her strong faith in God and her unselfish decision 18 years ago to give up a child so it could have a better life.

Who would you like to give a Shout Out to that contributed to your success?
I would give a shout-out to my parents because they have always been my biggest cheerleaders.
