Your Name
Collin Madson

What High School do you attend?
Mukwonago High School

Please highlight your accomplishments while in High School.
During my high school career I accomplished so much on the court and off.  I played varsity basketball for three years.  I was a starter and 2nd leading scorer my junior season and we won a Regional Championship. I was named All-Conference Honorable Mention.  As a Senior, I lead the team to a Regional Championship. I was chosen as team captain before the season started and took that job very seriously.  I was honored to lead my team into battle every night whether at practice or a game.  During this season, I broke the MHS record for most 3’s made in a career, scored 1000 points in my career,  became the single season points leader and 2nd all time leading scorer.  I was named 1st Team All-Conference, Honorable Mention All-State and was chosen for the WBCA All-Star game.   My coaches selected me as MVP of the team and I fulfilled my dream of playing college basketball at a school I love with coaches and teammates that I am excited to play with at UW-Whitewater.  While most of my accomplishments are on the court, I also overcame a lot of challenges in the classroom and am proud to say I am graduating with a 2.97 GPA.  I know this isn’t going to win me any scholarships or awards, but I worked extremely hard for this GPA and I am very proud of it.  If given the chance I would tell kids who struggle with learning to work as hard as you can and understand that your grades do not define you.  If you do your absolute best, be proud of what you did, and own it.  We all have different skills and abilities and we have to celebrate the wins in life.  Mukwonago has been a great community to me and my family and I am grateful for the relationships and success that I have created while at MHS.

Please tell us a little bit about your family.
My mom and dad Annie and Nick Madson have been married for 20 years and are great role models to me and my siblings. My dad is a Master Sergeant in the USAF and works at the 115th Fighter Wing in Madison, WI. My mom works at the Mukwonago School District as an IT Technician. I have a brother Jamo who plays baseball and a sister Mia who plays volleyball. I am blessed to have three grandparents still with me, Larry and Shirley Struve and Rita Madson, who love me very much. Sadly, we lost my grandfather Terry Madson this past February, he was the best. I am lucky to have many aunts and uncles and cousins who I am close to as well. My family is very important to me and is my biggest support system in life.

What is your favorite thing about our community?
The love and passion they have for athletics. The support they show at games and events is great.

What have you done to make Mukwonago a better place?
I have prided myself on being a good role model to the youth in our community. Making sure that kids understand what hard work and dedication looks like, always making good choices to ensure that I did not disappoint those kids that looked up to me. I have had the opportunity to work with youth boys basketball players while working at Jr. Indians basketball camps since I was a freshman, and hope to continue to help each year while in college. With the help of my family and friends, I have personally raised close to $10,000 for Make-A-Wish as a member of Mukwonago Basketball over my 9 years in the program and helped build our campaign over the years. We raised over $300,000 in the last three years, and it will continue to grow.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
I see myself teaching High School gym and coaching a varsity basketball team after spending 5 years playing professional basketball overseas.

Who inspires you to be better?
My young friend Cameron, who was a bright spot of my senior season.  Cameron is 5-year-old boy who came to our Make-A-Wish basketball game. He watched that game with such excitement, jumping up and down and just wanting to get on that court. At half time we had a moment where I picked him up and he joined me on the bench. The next game we got to go on the court and play some hoops together. We have had a connection ever since. For the rest of the season, he came to our games and became our hype man. This tough little dude has had an uphill battle since he was a baby and continues to climb the mountain with resilience and strength. With a smile on his face, he keeps showing everyone what he is made of. He inspires me to be better, to enjoy every moment and be grateful for the little things. Thank you, Cameron.

Who would you like to give a Shout Out to that contributed to your success?
My Mom and Dad. They have always believed in me and go above and beyond to help me chase my dreams. They have always been there for me through the good and the bad, and always push me to keep working.
