Your Name
Maddigan DeBoth
What High School do you attend?
Mukwonago High School
Please highlight your accomplishments while in High School.
Athletically, I have six Varsity letters between tennis and soccer. I have received two 2nd-Team All Conference awards and one 1st-Team All Conference award for tennis, as well as being the team MVP and captain this past year. As a doubles player, I (and my partners) have qualified for the WIAA Division 1 Doubles State Tournament for three consecutive years and have made it as far as the Round of 16. I was recently named Co-Captain of the Varsity Soccer Team. Academically, I have taken seven AP courses in addition to various honors and college level courses, all while maintaining a 4.0 GPA. In terms of extracurriculars, I am involved in Sting Cancer Club, Ecology Club, and have been a team member for my peers’ fundraisers for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. I also participated in the American Legion Auxiliary Badger Girls State conference this past summer and was voted as Senator of my district.
Please tell us a little bit about your family.
My parents, Jaime and Sean, are some of the most hardworking people I know, with emphasis on my mom, for she volunteers many hours of her time to local sports organizations. They try to come to as many games as possible and do their best to better me as both an athlete and as a person. I also have two younger brothers, Ayden (15) and Bradey (13). As the only girl, it can be hard to connect with them due to my lack of video game knowledge, but I try my hardest to pretend like I know every professional athlete and their career history.
What are your plans after graduation?
After I graduate, I plan to attend the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities to study education and/or political science. I aspire to become either an administrator, professor, or a lobbyist, depending upon where life takes me.
What is your favorite meal?
My favorite meal would have to be bolognese with bruschetta.
If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be and why?
I would love to travel to Italy to try authentic Italian cuisine. Bolognese, tiramisu, carbonara, and pizza are just a few of my favorite foods that I would love to experience in its country of origin.
What are your favorite movies? TV shows?
The Office and Parks and Recreation.
Who was/is your favorite teacher/coach from any grade? Why?
It is a two-way tie between Mrs. Greuel and Mr. Bice. I have had the privilege of connecting with both of these outstanding people throughout my years at Mukwonago High School, and my experience at school would not be the same without them. They are very kind and care for their students and make learning enjoyable and engaging.
What is your favorite thing to do in Mukwonago?
I love being able to call up a friend and hit together at our tennis courts. It is a great way to take your mind off of school stressors or anything else that may be going on.
If you were asked to give advice to the younger students at your school, what would you say?
I would advise younger students to stay true to themselves. It can be very easy to conform to the majority standard, but it isn’t worth it if you don’t feel like yourself. Although my friends make fun of me for this, I am an avid classical music listener and also love Minecraft, which are just some of the “oddball” aspects of myself. Most importantly, always remember to be kind, because you never know one’s story or struggles behind what they may portray at school.
If you could choose anyone that is alive today and not a relative; with whom would you love to have lunch? Why? And where locally would y’all meet for this lunch?
I would choose to have lunch with John Krasinski. This is because John Krasinski (Jim from The Office) is one of the kindest and most down-to-earth people. I would meet him at Fork in the Road because they have the best wraps and mac ‘n cheese.
What is your favorite thing about our community?
I love how caring and supportive our community is. People here are always willing to help those in need, support our schools, and help make our community a safe and better place.
What have you done to make Mukwonago a better place?
Being a volunteer tennis coach for the Park View tennis team, as well as coaching through Four Lakes Athletic Club’s program in Mukwonago, has allowed me to use my knowledge and skills as a tennis player and help coach and develop kids ages 3-12. As a tennis player myself, it frustrates me that the nearest clubs are 20+ minutes away, so being able to coach kids right on my own courts has been an incredible and rewarding experience. I also coordinated multiple off-season indoor soccer and futsal teams to help the girls soccer program prepare for the upcoming season.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
In ten years, I hope to be working on a visa in Europe, preferably in Belgium or in The Netherlands. Life is so large, so it is my goal to experience the world in all forms.
Have you ever had a nickname? What is it and why were you given it?
I have had many nicknames, but my favorite is “DaWall”. It incorporates part of my last name (DeBoth) with “wall” because I am a defender on my soccer team.
What are you passionate about?
I am passionate about many things, but I have recently found interest in education reform. I believe that the current education system is flawed and I would like to work in a career where I can change that.
What is something on your bucket list?
I hope one day I can visit Washington and Oregon and visit the various National and State Parks there. They have a volcano, a rainforest, and a beautiful coast that I would love to explore.
What is your go to band / singer when you can’t decide what to listen to?
Tame Impala.
Favorite month? favorite holiday? and best single day on the calendar?
June, Thanksgiving, and September 6th.
What would you rate a 10 out of 10?
Tiramisu, greeting my dog when I come home, and taking a really nice picture with friends.
Who inspires you to be better?
My cousin Carter, who passed away more than five years ago at the young age of two, inspires me to be better. He serves as a constant reminder to live life to the fullest, because life is not a guarantee. Despite his many surgeries and tubes, Carter still found a way to smile, and he inspires me to always find something good out of every situation I encounter.
Who would you like to give a Shout Out to that contributed to your success?
I attribute much of my success to my former elementary school teacher, Ms. Ruland. Ms. Ruland introduced me to the world of writing and has shaped me into the person I am today. Not only was she a fantastic teacher, but she was a kind and caring individual who strived to bring out the best in each and every one of her students. She inspires me to make a difference in the world of education and I hope to impact others the way she impacted me.
